Serena Ge Guo
Hi! Welcome to my space! I received my Ph.D. in Information Science from Cornell University in 2025. Previously, I earned my Master of Architecture degree at Columbia University, GSAPP, and my Bachelor of Architecture degree at the University of Hong Kong. My research is on rethinking physical space as a social interface: how environments themselves can actively participate in HCI in shaping interaction, social connection, inclusivity, and everyday playful experiences. I design with multi-media as ways to blend the physical world with the virtual world, including mixed reality, robots, tangible media, and digital arts/narratives.
Upon graduation in 2020 from Columbia University, I received the Honor Award for Excellence in Design, and the William Kinne Fellows Traveling Prize. I'm also the recipient of the Buell Center Paris Prize and the 2020 AIA Award for Excellence in Animation. Previously I worked in the Design firms SOM New York office and SO-IL.
I believe design is to throw out questions instead of providing exact answers, to offer possibilities instead of operating under known circumstances, and to build a platform that fosters creativity instead of defining the designer’s own territory. I'm working to expand the boundaries of people's vision of how design could change our lives for the better.
